C.I.S. 313 Student Cellphone Policy

Policy Overview

1. Cellphone Use During School Hours

  • Students may not use cellphones during instructional time, including in classrooms, hallways, restrooms, school yard and the cafeteria.

  • Cellphones must be turned off or on silent and submitted to the school from 8:00 AM to 2:20 PM.

  • Collection will take place on the 4th floor before students report to their 1st period class.

  • Any student arriving late must report to the main office to sign-in and submit their electronic device to office staff.

  • Smartwatches with communication capabilities are subject to the same restrictions.

2. Emergency Communication

  • In case of emergencies, families should contact the main office at (718)583-1736.

  • Students will be allowed to use school phones if necessary.

  • We will contact all parents in case of an emergency involving the school.

3. Exceptions

  • Students with documented medical needs or Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) that require cellphone access will be accommodated.

  • Teachers may authorize cellphone use for specific instructional activities.

4. Consequences for Violations

  • First Offense: Confiscation of phone until end of day; parent/guardian notified.

  • Second Offense: Confiscation of phone until 4:15; parent/guardian notified.

  • Third Offense: Parent/guardian must pick up the phone; student conference with administration.

  • Repeated Offenses: May result in loss of cellphone privileges and further disciplinary action.

5. Responsibility

  • The school is not responsible for lost, stolen, or damaged cellphones.

  • All cellphones will be securely stored in the main office.

6. Distribution

  • Students will receive their electronic devices at 2:40 pm.

  • 8th grade will pick up their devices on the 8th grade side in front of exit G before proceeding to head to afterschool activities or home.

  • 6th and 7th grade students will pick up their devices in front of exit D before proceeding to head to afterschool activities or home.

To foster a focused, respectful, and safe learning environment, C.I.S. 313 has established the following cellphone policy for students and families.
